Creating LGBT+ Inclusive Schools and Lessons

Course description

This half day training session looks at how we can engage with young people, free from assumptions about gender, relationships, sex and sexuality.

Part One - Homophobic, Biphobic, Transphobic (HBT) Bullying: This section will increase your knowledge surrounding LBGT+ young people, their experiences and their needs – as well as offer guidance on what do to if a young person tells you they are LGBT+ and how to tackle HBT language around the school.

Part Two - Teaching Inclusively: This section looks at how we can engage with young people, free from assumptions about gender, sex and sexuality. LGBT+ issues should not be just standalone RSE lessons, but interwoven into everything that we do. The session will look at how mainstream RSE education can meet the needs of LGBT+ young people, and how we can give our entire student body the skills they need to safeguard themselves, and develop positive attitudes towards their sexual health.

This course is available for all educational professionals but will be particularly useful for Senior Leadership who are interested in developing a whole-school inclusive ethos.

This course is provided free of charge to Manchester schools that have completed the 2022/23 Health Check.
