Senior Mental Health Leads Training

As part of the WER programme, the Department of Education offered a senior member of schools or colleges the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills to implement an effective whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing in their setting.

Who is this training for?

Training could be for the school's headteacher, deputy headteacher, member of SLT, or an appropriate member of staff who is oversee a whole school or college approach - Please note that this training is for members of the school’s leadership team only.

Training outcomes

  • The benefits of a whole school or college approach, and the purpose and expectations of the senior mental health lead role.
  • The factors important to leading strategic change and implementing a whole school approach
  • How the SMHL role firs within the wider mental health system and how to access further support
  • Looking at existing practice in schools and colleges, and the benefits of sharing practice
  • The importance of collecting and assessing data to ensure targeted and appropriate support is provided
