Life skills-based Education for Drug Use Prevention - 5th March 2019

Course description

The aim of the training is to introduce teachers and other educators who work with young people to use life skills-based approaches for drugs education and other health issues. The training introduces ideas and skills for building programmes that can lead to better health and drug education outcomes that may ultimately influence student drug use. The training includes:

  • Goals of life skills education
  • Life skills and safe, supportive environments
  • Harm minimisation and schools
  • Principles of best practice and contrasting limited approaches to drugs education
  • Knowledge, attitudes and skills for facilitators
  • Different methods of implementing life skills based drugs education and possible programme content
  • Sensitive issues
  • Evaluation and assessment
  • Teaching strategies
  • Effective group work and managing group behaviour problems
  • Reasons young people use drugs and identifying young people at risk
  • Involving parents and communities
