Understanding Autism

Course description

This session is an introduction to autism, for practitioners working with young people with an autism diagnosis or on the pathway for assessment. It will introduce you to autism and neuro-affirmative practice in your setting. There will be a focus on communication and understanding stress and distress, and how to change environments to better meet autistic young people’s individual needs.


  1. Knowledge of what Autism is.
  2. More knowledge of sources of stress and distress for autistic young people
  3. Knowledge about helpful changes you can make to your practice
